Annual gingerbread house contest accepting entries

Deadline is Sunday; winners in five categories announced Dec. 22

PORT TOWNSEND — The entry deadline for the annual Uptown Gingerbread Contest is fast approaching.

Sunday is the final day to bring gingerbread house creations for the 28th annual Uptown Gingerbread Contest to the Port Townsend Public Library at 1220 Lawrence St.

At least 20 of the edible structures are expected to be on display at the library, although only six had arrived as of Wednesday.

Artist Max Grover will judge entries in four categories — Children 12 and Under, Most Creative, Most Literary and Housing for All — between Monday and Dec. 19. The People’s Choice Award will be decided by members of the public, who can vote between Monday and Dec. 19.

Winners of the five categories will be announced Dec. 22.

Prizes will be awarded.

The library distributed free gingerbread kits, but contestants also can make their own gingerbread for their creative efforts.

Once judging is done, those who want to keep their houses must pick them up by Jan.2; otherwise, they will be discarded.

Library hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

For more information, call the library at 360-385-3181 or see the website at https://ptpubliclibrary.org/library.
