Activist singer-songwriter to perform at Democratic headquarters Sunday

PORT ANGELES — Pittsburgh-based activist Anne Feeney will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Democratic headquarters as part of her “Summer of Resistance” tour.

Admission to the headquarters at 24-A W. First St. is by a suggested donation of $15 to $20. However, no one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Feeney uses her acoustic guitar and voice to advocate for trade unions, feminism, environmentalism, anti-racism and press freedom.

Her “Summer of Resistance” tour spans two months, 21 cities, eight states and the District of Columbia. Feeney launched the tour May 22 in Austin, Texas, where she debuted her new benefit CD of 16 songs, and will end the tour July 31 in San Francisco with Roy Zimmerman.

Feeney’s borrowed motto is to perform music to “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.”

For the past 40 years, she has played at various conventions, rallies, marches, picket lines and strikes.

Feeney’s anthem “Have You Been to Jail for Justice?” is featured on Peter, Paul and Mary’s CD “In These Times” and also on “Carry It On.”

The song also has been featured in several films, including “Get Up/Stand Up: The History of Pop and Protest.”
