PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Art League presents this month exhibits of work by Artist of the Month Pamela Raine, Jeweler of the Month Katie Jablonski and a Portraits Group Show.
Raine’s paintings and Jablonski’s jewelry are on display at Sound Community Bank at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow and online at www.port ludlowart.org. Raine credits the league’s weekly critiques via Zoom for those artists interested in abstract art with providing the impetus to grow as an artist and create art during the pandemic, she said.
Her latest artwork includes paintings in two abstract styles: traditional abstract art and abstract landscapes. Traditional abstract art achieves its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures. Abstract landscapes are often an abstract interpretation of a real or imagined landscape.
Jablonski is inspired by nature and the expressions of life that flow from the materials she uses, she said.
She works with a variety of precious and semi-precious minerals and gems from raw opals to crystals.
Silver, copper, and bronze is cast using the lost wax process in a kiln and sometimes included in her wire wrapping and beading. Enamels are layered to create earrings, pins, and other objects of art. Repousse is used to bring depth, textures, and details.

The Portraits Group Art Show was inspired by the United Kingdom’s 2020 Portrait Artist of the Year series that can be viewed on YouTube. The series challenges nine artists, both professional and amateur, to paint a portrait of a celebrity in a four-hour sitting.
“The most interesting aspect of the competition was the vast array of styles and mediums the artists used to capture the essence of their celebrity,” organizers said in a press release.
“Sea Raven” by Janice Gruber is on display in the online Portraits Group Show.
Styles included realistic, abstract, impressionistic, caricature, surreal, pop, and simple outlines. Mediums included oil, acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, graphic, pastel, and ink.
Members of the Port Ludlow Art League used a variety of mediums to translate their interpretation of portraits for the January online art show.
