A cornucopia of art: Sequim Art Walk features artists, live music tonight

SEQUIM — A cornucopia of autumn-themed art will be on display this evening during First Friday Art walk, with artists on hand to greet the public, and live music ringing out in celebration of the harvest season.

Art Walk is a free self-guided tour that leads participants to local art venues in Sequim on the First Friday of every month.

Art Walk will be from 5 to 8 tonight.

Brown is the color theme of this evening’s Art Walk, said Renne Emiko Brock, who sponsors and produces the event.

“Brown is the color of fall harvest and abundance, the turning of the leaves, and seasonal spicy treats,” Brock said.

“Brown represents solid assemblies, community minded activities, steadfast alliances, comforting homesteads, family trees with deep roots and supportive branches.”

Brock encourages attendees to wear brown attire when exploring the various shops and events.

“You will find works of art and folks supporting the option to dress in shades of bountiful brown or representations of hearth and harvest as they enjoy an evening on the town with down-to-earth friends and family,” she said.

Visit www.sequimartwalk.com to download a map of participating venues.

Here’s a cross section of events:

• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., during Art Walk will feature fiber artist Jan Tatom.

A selection of art works by artists of the Blue Whole Gallery also will be on display at 129 W. Washington St.

Tatom is inspired by the colors and textures of nature reflected in the mountains, woods and coastal areas of the Olympic Peninsula, according to a news release.

Tatom weaves these elements into her art with the aid of two looms.

Local Yarn Shop, 213 E Washington St., during Art Walk will host live music and fiber arts demonstrations.

• Mia Bella, 130A N. Third Ave., during Art Walk will feature art by Curposney Gadane.

Works by artists Paula Graham, Pat Gordon, George Zien, Priscilla Patterson, Pam Kauffman and Joanie Schmoll also will be on display.

• Olympic Theater Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., at 5:30 p.m. will host a performance by musician Steve Anderson.

Admission is free, with concessions and beverages available for purchase.

Originally from Texas, Anderson played for several years in the San Diego, Calif., area as a lead vocalist, guitarist and mandolin player.

His early influences included rock bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Atlanta Rhythm Section and Bad Company.

Anderson covers tunes from Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Eric Clapton and Elton John.

• R&T Crystals and Beads, 158 E. Bell St., during Art Walk will host jewelry demonstrations by Paulette Hill, D’Ann Gonzales and Gail McLain.

Sequim Spice and Tea, 139 W. Washington St., during Art Walk will display art by Maia Way.

The Bag Ladies of Sequim, 167 W. Washington St., during Art Walk will be decorated by luminarias created with recycled materials.

Each hand-made item has a unique combination of felting, hand dying, beading, embroidering and appliqueing, according to a news release.

• The Museum and Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St., during Art Walk will offer a glimpse at the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival’s “Material Measurement – Magnitude, Meaning &Makers” fiber arts juried exhibition.

The exhibit is about “vindicating the volume and importance of all fiber in its many forms while reflecting on textiles, tales and talent through enlightenment, abundance, accumulation and perception,” according to a news release, with creators “conveying the transformation of cloth from meaningless mass into something that matters.”

The artists will be on hand during art walk to greet the public and offer demonstrations.

Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., from 7 to 9 tonight will host live music by The Crocs, a rock band based out of Port Angeles that performs a mixture of tunes from the 1960s and 1970s.

1st Security Bank, 114 S. Sequim Ave., from 4:30 to 6 tonight will host an artist’s reception for Jan Kepley, whose photographs currently are on display in the lobby.
