25th Forest Storytelling Festival begins at Peninsula College

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ 25th annual Forest Storytelling Festival runs today through Sunday in and around the Little Theater, aka Building J, at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

The fest is geared toward adults and teens with workshops, performances and chances to practice their own telling style.

Admission at the door of each event ranges from free to $20, with full festival passes at $85.

Friday

• 1 p.m. — Kevin Kling’s pre-festival workshop, “Laughter and Story as Archetype and Healing,” $50.

• 6 p.m. — Doors at the Little Theater open.

• 7 p.m. — Featured storytellers Kling, Ray Christian, Dolores Hydock, Heather McNeil and Ingrid Nixon in concert, $15.

Saturday

• 9 a.m. — “Exit Stage Left: Acting Secrets for Storytellers” workshop with Hydock, or “Stories of Healing: Chicken Soup for the Chicken” with Kling, $20.

• 10:30 a.m. — “The Quick Story Process” workshop with Christian, or “Vividness, Verve and Vigor: Playing with Words” with Nixon, or “Let’s Begin: How to Find, Learn and Tell Stories” with McNeil, $20.

• 12:30 p.m. — Story Slam “light,” a judging-free event for true personal stories of five minutes or less on the theme “A Force of Nature,” Little Theater, free; story swap for eight-minutes-or-less stories of all kinds, room J-47, free.

• 1:30 p.m. — Solo performance by Christian, $15.

• 2:45 p.m. — McNeil’s solo show, $15.

• 3:45 p.m. — Hydock’s solo show, $15

• 7:30 p.m. — All featured tellers in concert, $20.

Sunday

• 8:15 a.m. — Doors open.

• 9 a.m. — Solo performance by Nixon, $10.

• 9:45 a.m. — Kling’s solo show, $10.

• 11:15 a.m. — Inspirational Tales concert with all featured tellers, free.

• 12:45 p.m. — Final drawing for festival quilt; event closes.
