PORT LUDLOW — The victim of a fatal stabbing in Port Ludlow on Monday night was identified as Robert Carpenter, 56, on Wednesday.
Jason Carpenter, 17, who was arrested Monday night, has been charged with second-degree murder-domestic violence, deadly weapon.
Jason Carpenter appeared in Jefferson County Superior Court on Tuesday and his arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday, according to Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Anna Philips of Jefferson County.
Because of Jason Carpenter’s age and the nature of the crime, Philips said state statute requires that he be tried as an adult.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office had reported that a Port Townsend Police Department officer who was aiding in the search had arrested the teen without incident but had withheld his name and that of the victim.
Deputies investigated a report of a stabbing on the 100 block of Dunsmuir Road in Port Ludlow at about 6:30 p.m. Monday and arrived to find Robert Carpenter on the front porch of the residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The relative who reported the stabbing warned authorities Jason Carpenter had mental health issues.
A police report was made in July after Jason allegedly attacked Robert without reason, according to court documents.
Detective Sgt. Brett Anglin with the sheriff’s office said Wednesday he could not clarify the relationship between Jason and Robert Carpenter.
