Two men arrested following attempted robbery

SEQUIM — Two men were arrested and Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies are working to identify a third person following an alleged robbery and assault at a Carlsborg store.

Julian Treat, 30, of Seattle and Joshua Pulliam, 28, of Lakewood were arrested on investigation of first-degree robbery on Friday after they allegedly abandoned their vehicle at Sequim Bay State Park, the sheriff’s office said.

Both remained at the Clallam County jail on Monday afternoon.

Deputies responded to a robbery in progress about 5:30 p.m. Friday at the AM/PM on Carlsborg Road, where Treat and Pulliam allegedly assaulted a store clerk. Threats also were made to take the clerk’s wallet, the sheriff’s office said.

The clerk sustained minor injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

Treat and Pulliam, later identified on the store’s surveillance video, left the store and fled the scene eastbound on U.S. Highway 101 in a red sedan with black wheels and dark tinted windows, the sheriff’s office said.

Shortly afterward, a Sequim police sergeant attempted to stop the vehicle on Highway 101 near Seventh Avenue, but the sergeant ended the pursuit after it reached speeds of 110 mph, the sheriff’s office said.

The red sedan also drove into oncoming traffic while passing other vehicles, the sheriff’s office said.

A Washington State Patrol trooper later located the red sedan at Sequim Bay State Park. Responding officers set up containment within the area along with members from a crisis response team.

The team deployed a drone that is equipped with night vision and heat signature detection capabilities, and it located Treat and Pulliam hiding in a wooded area about a quarter-mile east from where they abandoned their vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

The drone operator coordinated with crisis response team members and a Port Angeles Police Department K-9 unit to arrest Treat and Pulliam without further incident, the sheriff’s office said.

During a search of Treat, deputies located suspected fentanyl pills and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, the sheriff’s office added.

The third suspect was not known Sunday night but did not participate in the alleged assault at AM/PM, the sheriff’s office said.

Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies coordinated with Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies in the search for the vehicle. Also assisting were the State Patrol, U.S. Fish and Wildlife and a detective from the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team (OPNET).
