Theft from Veterans Circle in cemetery investigated

Clallam County Sheriff’s Office asks for help from public

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is asking for public help in locating thieves who took 14 bronze vases from headstones in the Veterans Circle in Mount Angeles Cemetery.

The vases are used by families to place flowers in for their deceased loved ones who served in the military.

The groundskeeper observed suspicious activity recently by individuals in two vehicles that drove up to the veterans circle and were seen removing flowers from the vases, plucking the petals from the flowers and throwing the flowers on the ground, the sheriff’s office said on its Facebook page on Friday.

They also left needles and garbage on the ground, it was reported.

Vehicles parked in the Veterans Circle prior to the discovery of the theft of the vases were a small silver car — possibly Toyota Yaris or Vibe — and a black Toyota 4Runner, the sheriff’s office said Friday.

No additional information was available on Saturday.

Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to call dispatchers at 360-417-2459, the sheriff’s office at 360-417-2262 or leave an anonymous tip on the sheriff’s website at https://www.clallam.net/Sheriff.
