PORT ANGELES — A Sequim woman has been charged after she allegedly barged into a house, assaulted a man and a boy, fled from law enforcement and rammed into a patrol car.
Melody Sue White, 48, was charged Thursday with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault with domestic violence, fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest and attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle for alleged crimes that occurred Aug. 30 and Aug. 31.
She will be arraigned Friday in Clallam County Superior Court.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said Melody White unlawfully entered a Sequim residence shortly before midnight Aug. 30 and attacked a boy, throwing him against a wall before slapping him and punching him in the head.
“He pushed back and she said ‘You’re not Mark,’ ” Deputy Matthew Murphy wrote in the affidavit for probable cause.
A man identified as Mark White intervened, holding Melody White to the floor as the youth escaped, Murphy said.
“When he was letting go she punched him on the right side of his face,” Murphy said.
She fled the residence before law enforcement arrived, according to deputies.
Sequim police spotted her driving in a 1997 Lexus at about 8:42 p.m. Aug. 31 and pulled her over on the 1100 block of West Spruce Court, Deputy Don Kitchen wrote in the affidavit for probable cause.
When advised that she was under arrest, she became “very agitated” and refused to exit the vehicle, Kitchen said.
She ran over spike strips that Sequim police had placed in front of her vehicle and led law enforcement on a 1.2-mile pursuit to the 200 block of West Alder Street, deputies said.
She reached speeds of 48 mph in a 25 mph zone and blew through a stop sign, Kitchen said.
“White turned her car right and drove it into the front left of my patrol car, damaging the push bars and body,” Kitchen said.
Two other deputies were able to stop her progress by pulling in front and behind the Lexus, Kitchen said.
After her arrest, Melody White told investigators that she was upset because she suspected that her husband had been cheating on her, Murphy wrote in the arrest narrative.
She denied hitting the boy.
She is being held in the Clallam County jail on $5,000 bail.
