SEQUIM — A Sequim man police are investigating for a burglary of the Sequim VFW has been placed on a 72-hour hold.
Jordan Salo, 29, a tenant living above the Sequim Veterans of Foreign War Post 4760 at 169 E. Washington St., is in the Clallam County jail on a bond of $1,000 for investigation of second-degree burglary and first-degree theft.
He was arrested on Saturday and was placed on a 72-hour hold on Monday.
Sequim police officers said more than $5,000 in stolen goods — including alcohol, electronics and musical equipment — from the bar area of the VFW was found in his apartment.
VFW quartermaster Steve Henrikson said a janitor discovered the items missing on Saturday morning, and VFW leadership contacted the building owner. Sequim police were notified after the owner checked the apartment and found the stolen property upstairs, according to officers.
Henrikson said their liquor cabinet was cut open and about five bottles of high-priced alcohol were stolen along with band equipment, such as microphones and amplifiers, from the dance floor.
The VFW was closed Saturday and Sunday because of the burglary, Henrikson said.
VFW members plan to reopen the building today with regular hours Wednesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. or later, depending on business.
“It’s a wakeup call that we need to beef up our security,” Henrikson said.
The business has been going well under new leadership the last four years, he said, and they’ve “seen a nice pick-up.”
