SEQUIM — Detectives are investigating the shooting of a 54-year-old Sequim man who was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office would not identify the victim of the early Tuesday morning shooting pending an interview with him today, Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said Wednesday.
The man was shot in the lower part of both legs with a handgun after two male adults showed up at his motor home in the 800 block of Youngquist Road at about 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, King and Detective Eric Munger said.
The man and 39-year-old visitor responded to a knock on the door and talked to the men while outside the motor home before an argument ensued, resulting in the victim getting shot, Munger and King said.
Both of the men who showed up at the man’s motor home wielded firearms, Munger said in a press release. One of the men shot the victim at least twice, he said. The victim was treated at Olympic Medical Center before being flown to Harborview. His condition could not be ascertained without a name.
Witnesses included the 39-year-old man and other people who lived in RVs parked on the parcel, Munger said in a press release.
An RV resident heard the shots and chased the two men to Youngquist Road before losing sight of them, Munger said.
King said the suspects left in a vehicle but could not describe it. The victim and witnesses said they did not recognize the suspects, he said.
Munger said in an interview he was able to give only a general description of the two men, saying they are white males in their 20s.
The 39-year-old man who witnessed the shooting was extremely intoxicated when interviewed by authorities, Munger said.
“We have nothing to really go on at the moment,” he said. King said a motive for the shooting has not been determined.
“We have suspicions but no factual basis for the suspicions at this point,” he said.
