PORT ANGELES — Charges were filed in Clallam County Superior Court on Wednesday against a Sequim man accused of assaulting a Sequim woman last weekend.
Anthony Lawrence Lee, 32, of Sequim, faces three charges — assault in the second degree, assault with a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm — all class B felonies.
Charges include enhanced circumstances because Lee allegedly used a firearm, and a previous conviction prevents him from owning any firearms, according to court documents.
Arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28. He continues to be held on $250,000 bail.
Lee, appearing via video from Clallam County jail, asked judge Simon Barnhart to lower his bail, but Barnhart said Lee needs to be assigned an attorney first and then he can discuss conditions of release at his next hearing.
Defense attorney Harry Gasnick, who represented Lee at both his court appearances, said he did not anticipate handling the case.
Lee first appeared in court Monday after he was arrested following a standoff late Saturday night in the Diamond Point area.
He allegedly fired a handgun at a woman multiple times, struck her with the handgun and kicked her in the head, according to court documents.
She suffered extensive injuries and was taken to Olympic Medical Center, court documents say.
Superior Court Judge Brent Basden said Monday that Lee attempted to shoot the victim not only when she was on the ground but also when she was running away.
“All this occurred while he was holding a firearm that he can’t possess,” Basden said before he set bail along with conditions of release.
Basden also expressed concern over Lee using a handgun he can’t possess, and numerous failure-to-appear warrants.
At the scene, Washington State Patrol SWAT team was called in, and one rubber bullet was fired to get Lee to come out of his home, a converted passenger bus, said Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Munger.
Gas was also fired into the bus, and no law enforcement or Lee were injured during the extraction, according to Munger.
