PORT ANGELES — A Quileute tribal member has been charged with first-degree child rape involving a Lower Elwha Klallam tribal member, Lower Elwha officials said last week.
Tyron E.L. Jackson, 28, was booked Monday into the Clallam County jail on a tribal Class A felony charge on $10,000 bail, according to the jail roster.
Jackson remained in the jail as of Saturday.
Tribal Police Chief Sam White confirmed Thursday the charge was first-degree child rape and said Jackson was arrested by a Lower Elwha police officer.
“This is strictly under Elwha jurisdiction,” White said.
Tribal Chairwoman Frances Charles said Friday that Jackson was charged in tribal court last week with first-degree child rape.
Charles and White said Jackson remains under investigation in the case.
Charles and White would not comment on the age or gender of the victim.
They would not comment on if the FBI is involved in the investigation.
Under state law, a victim of first-degree child rape is under 12 years old.
The Lower Elwha Tribal Code was unavailable last week.
Charles said Friday she does not know if tribal court proceedings against Jackson will be public.
Tribal legal procedures do not fall under the purview of state or federal regulations.
Brian King, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office chief criminal deputy, said Jackson’s middle names are Everett Lee.
Jackson’s address history showed that he has lived in La Push, King said.
A temporary restraining order that a woman filed against Jackson was granted April 28, 2017, in Clallam County Superior Court.
She said in her March 30 petition that Jackson was the subject of an ongoing FBI investigation for sexual crimes against a minor.
