PORT ANGELES — A Sunday morning pursuit through Port Angeles reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies investigated a report of a burglary in progress in a mobile home park east of Port Angeles at about 11:37 a.m. Sunday, Sgt. John Hollis said.
A man took off in a Jeep SUV, Hollis said. Deputy Jim Dixon attempted to stop him in the area of North Brooks Avenue, but the man headed onto U.S. Highway 101 and into Port Angeles.
He sped down Liberty Street and Lauridsen Boulevard, leading deputies and one Port Angeles police officer on a chase through town and onto state Highway 112, Hollis said.
The average speed of the 10-mile chase was about 46 mph, and traffic was light, but at least one collision was narrowly averted so Hollis called off the pursuit near the intersection of 112 and Sands Road in the interest of public safety.
Deputies continue to look for the man, who may have been driving with a passenger, Hollis said.
