PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Townsend woman who has been divorced from her husband for 15 years is now charged with allegedly barging into his home and beating him with the grate from his barbecue.
Alicia Tejas, 52, was charged with first-degree burglary, domestic violence; second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence; and second-degree malicious mischief, domestic violence, in Jefferson County Superior Court on Wednesday.
Superior Court Judge Keith Harper ordered her held in the Jefferson County jail on $20,000 bail or bond.
“That is what I think is necessary to secure your compliance,” Harper told Tejas.
“It was alleged you were extremely intoxicated during this incident.”
Prosecutors had asked for $50,000 bail, telling Harper “there is a reasonable likelihood she will commit a violent crime based on the facts here.”
Port Townsend police responded to a report Tuesday night that Tejas was beating her husband “with a BBQ” and breaking windows out at the home on the 800 block of Parkside Drive, according to the probable cause statement.
The victim told police that Tejas burst into his home through the back door and started attacking him with the metal grate from his barbecue grill.
He ran to his truck intending to call 9-1-1, but Tejas pulled his door open and started hitting him with the barbecue grate again, court records say.
Police said the victim suffered a bruise on the right side of his head, a small bruise on his right forearm and a 4-inch-long scratch on his chest.
Tejas is scheduled for arraignment Friday.
