PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Townsend man is being held in Jefferson County Jail on $100,000 bail after he was charged for investigation of sex crimes.
Donald Scott Myers, 51, is charged with second-degree rape, an ongoing pattern of sexual abuse-domestic violence and first-degree possessing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to court documents.
An arraignment is set Friday in Jefferson County Superior Court.
During his initial appearance on Monday, a public defender was not appointed because Myers was exploring hiring his own counsel, according to Julian St. Marie, chief deputy prosecuting attorney.
Detective Shane Stevenson of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office wrote in the probable cause statement that he had interviewed the alleged rape victim on multiple occasions dating back to May regarding possible sex crimes.
She told Stevenson that Myers had told her he had a predilection towards young girls, that he said he had taken photos of people in public places without their knowledge and would digitally edit them and change them into sexually explicit images.
She said he used those images for gratification.
In an interview, Myers admitted to Stevenson that he took photos from a work colleague’s computer of her minor daughter and altered one of them to show the child as being nude, and used the image for his own sexual gratification, according to court documents.
Stevenson also said that Myers admitted to raping the alleged victim while she was unconscious several times over a three-month period.
She did not remember the acts, however, and reported that she awakened to find herself bleeding.
St. Marie said the standard sentencing range for these crimes is from 86 months to 114 months, if convicted. She said the case has the potential for more time to be added to the sentence.
