Port Townsend man accused of attempted child rape

Sting operation conducted

PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Townsend man has been arrested for investigation of second-degree attempted rape of a child and communication with a minor for immoral purpose after a sting operation involving three law enforcement agencies.

Gregory G. Cremarosa, 59, is also under investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol. He remained in the Jefferson County Jail on $50,000 bail on Saturday.

Since March, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and Port Townsend Police Department officers had received reports regarding possible inappropriate behavior by Cremarosa.

Four girls under the age of 16 said that he invited them to his yacht, the sheriff’s office said.

“It was more of a boat,” said Sgt. Brett Anglin.

He provided a phone number and his contact information during these interactions, the sheriff’s office said.

The two law enforcement agencies began an investigation.

The State Patrol Missing and Exploited Children Task Force detectives assisted by opening communication with Cremarosa posing as a fictitious 13-year-old female, the sheriff’s office said.

Cremarosa, thinking he was talking with a young teenage girl, told detectives he wanted to perform sexual acts on her and agreed to meet with her at Chetzemoka Park in Port Townsend.

When Cremarosa drove to the park, he was met by Port Townsend officers and sheriff’s deputies.

Detectives are seeking any others who might have been approached by him, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

“We don’t know how many have fallen for this or those who may know of a person who did so we can continue investigations into possible victimization.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jon Stuart at 360-344-9752.
