Port Angeles woman sentenced for Lake Crescent burglary

Michelle Madona Osborn gets four months in jail

TACOMA — A Port Angeles woman has been sentenced to four months in jail for a burglary at Lake Crescent last summer.

Michelle Madona Osborn was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington at Tacoma.

She was convicted on one count of felony residential burglary, two counts of third-degree theft and one count of third-degree possession of stolen property after a three-day jury trial in January.

Olympic National Park rangers caught Osborn hauling a safe from one residence in a wheelbarrow she had taken from another residence, federal court papers said.

A search of Osborn’s vehicle turned up additional stolen property from at least three victims, according to a sentencing memorandum.

Ranger Matthew Bolin spotted Osborn pushing a blue wheelbarrow toward her vehicle that was parked at the top of a driveway in the 800 block of East Beach Road last Aug. 9, court papers said.

The wheelbarrow contained a safe that was attached to a broken piece of particle board and was partially concealed under a life jacket, according to the federal compliant.

Osborn told the officer she had found the safe in the lake when she was kayaking, Bolin said.

“The back seat and passenger compartment of the suspect’s brown Chevrolet Blazer were packed to the roof with household goods, to include bedding, clothing and gas cans,” Bolin said in the Aug. 12 complaint.

Osborn was ordered to pay $1,924 in restitution to three victims.

“Beyond the property damage itself, each victim has spoken about the feeling of violation from the defendant’s crimes,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Andre Penalver said in a sentencing memorandum.

Osborn will be on community custody for three years after her release, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Leighton ruled.
