PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles woman was arrested for investigation of theft charges for allegedly taking an SUV and other items from two residences west of Port Angeles, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
Jessica Mae Constant, 39, was booked into the Clallam County jail Thursday. She is being held for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, trafficking in stolen property and two outstanding felony warrants, Sheriff’s Sgt. Amy Bundy said.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brent Basden set Constant’s bail at $25,000 Monday.
The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will consider filing formal charges against Constant at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
A Joyce-Piedmont Road resident reported Sept. 14 that his Ford Expedition had been stolen and other vehicles on his property had been prowled, Bundy said.
The next morning, a homeowner on Glacier Lane just west of the Elwha River reported that his house had been burglarized and a number of items, including tools, pottery, kitchen appliances, electronics and a pressure washer, had been stolen, Bundy said.
Constant allegedly tried to sell the stolen items at a Port Angeles pawn shop, according to the affidavit for probable cause.
A deputy spotted the stolen Expedition parked in a residential area near the corner of West 10th and South C streets in Port Angeles later Sept. 15.
The deputy obtained a search warrant and recovered items that had reportedly been stolen from the Glacier Lane residence and a purse belonging to Constant, Bundy said.
“The victims of the Glacier Lane burglary were able to respond to the scene to recover many of their stolen items,” Bundy said.
“The Ford Expedition was returned to its owner.”
Port Angeles police responded to a report for a shoplifter at Country Aire Natural Foods last Thursday.
“The shoplifter was identified as Jessica Constant, who was arrested for two outstanding felony warrants and booked into Clallam County jail,” Bundy said.
“Deputy Jim Dixon investigated the theft of the motor vehicle and residential burglary and developed probable cause that Jessica Constant committed the crimes of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property and trafficking in stolen property.”
