PORT ANGELES — Police suspended their active search Monday afternoon for a man who is wanted for investigation of felony domestic violence assault in violation of a protection order after a three-hour canvas east of downtown Port Angeles failed to turn up the suspect.
Residents in the area of the 700 block of East Third Street were asked to stay indoors at about 12:30 p.m. while Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Rico looked for Dean Stanley Ewing, 29, Port Angeles Police Sgt. Kori Malone said.
Malone said the search for Ewing, which included questioning passersby in the area, was suspended at 1:13 p.m. Monday.
Ewing is a white male with blond hair and a tattoo on his right shoulder who was wearing a white T-shirt and tan pants, Malone said.
If Ewing is spotted, the public is being urged to call 9-1-1 or 360-452-2345 rather than approach him, Malone said, adding it is unknown if he is armed.
Ewing was sentenced to 14 months in prison Nov. 12, 2014, for second-degree assault after also initially being charged with unlawful imprisonment and second-degree forcible rape of a woman who told police she had let him stay overnight on her couch, according to Clallam County Superior Court records.
Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy Stacy Sampson said Ewing was arrested a couple of weeks ago for misdemeanor fourth-degree assault of a woman.
That woman called 9-1-1 Monday to say Ewing had assaulted her again at about 8 a.m. Monday on Black Diamond Road, grabbing her and causing minor injuries, Sampson said.
“You could see where he grabbed her,” Sampson said.
