Port Angeles man shot in legs identified

SEQUIM — Authorities have identified the man who was shot in the legs last week in a tiny enclave of RVs west of Blyn before being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Brian Erick Erickson, 54, was released from the hospital Thursday after Clallam County Sheriff’s Office investigators interviewed him about the early Tuesday morning incident.

Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said Saturday evening that the case remains under investigation.

He said Erickson was shot with a handgun below his left knee and in his right foot at about 4:20 a.m. Tuesday outside his recreational vehicle while talking with two men who had knocked on his door.

Interview with victim

Sheriff’s office authorities were unable to talk with him until Thursday.

“We were able to get more information,” King said.

“He certainly cooperated with the interview, but there is no new information we can share.”

The property in the immediate vicinity of the 800 block of Youngquist Road where the shooting occurred was populated by more than 10 RVs, including Erickson’s.

“It was definitely a community,” King said.

“Multiple people are living in multiple RVs in that specific area.”

Deputies have answered 9-1-1 calls to the vicinity 30 times since the beginning of 2018.

“We get frequent calls to the area, so we are fairly familiar with it,” King said.

Erickson and a 39-year-old visitor were talking to the two men, both of whom were armed, when the shooting occurred, sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Eric Munger said Wednesday.

Witnesses included the 39-year-old man and other people who lived in the nearby RVs.

One resident heard the shots before chasing Erickson’s assailants, who drove away in a vehicle, authorities said.
