Port Angeles man suspected of state park burglary

SEQUIM — A Port Angeles man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a burglary at Sequim Bay State Park, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said.

Robert D. Bain, 30, was booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of second-degree burglary and other crimes for his alleged role in a Tuesday-morning burglary of a park maintenance building, Sgt. Brian Knutson said.

He was booked at 6:01 a.m. for investigation of second-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, vehicle prowl, malicious mischief, third-degree theft and making false statements to law enforcement.

Deputies investigated at 4:30 a.m. a report of an alarm at the building near U.S. Highway 101 and Louella Road, Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said.

The first-arriving deputy saw a vehicle fleeing from the area and a man later identified as Bain running on foot, Knutson said.

Bain provided a false name after he was detained, Knutson said. He was later identified by his tattoos.

“Bain denied entering the State Parks building but identified others involved with the burglary,” Knutson said in a press release.

King said he had no information to release about any others who might have been involved in the crime.

“Further investigation revealed the State Parks building had been unlawfully entered by force and power tools were stolen from within the building.”

Entry was through a broken window and a vehicle within the structure also was entered, Knutson said.

Bain was found to be in possession of illegal drugs, Knutson said.
