PORT ANGELES — A 26-year-old Port Angeles man has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison after pleading guilty to methamphetamine charges this week, the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced.
Jesse R. Haynes was sentenced to 87 months Tuesday. He had pleaded guilty to single counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance, prosecutors said.
The Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team said it used a confidential informant to buy 3.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine from Haynes near Mount Angeles Memorial Park cemetery east of Port Angeles on July 6.
On July 23, OPNET served a search warrant at an apartment on the 2400 block of South Francis Street and found Haynes in possession of 10.7 grams of methamphetamine and a loaded pistol, according to the affidavit for probable cause.
Detectives found two other firearms and another 125.5 grams of methamphetamine, worth about $6,275 on the street, and a wallet with Haynes’s identification inside a lock box at the residence, OPNET officials said.
Previous convictions
Haynes had previous convictions of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous weapon, misdemeanor harassment and third- and fourth-degree assault, court papers said.
“Notably in this case, the special allegation that Haynes possessed a firearm during the commission of the offense raised the sentencing range and added an additional 36 months of incarceration,” said Detective Sgt. Josh Powless, OPNET supervisor, in a Tuesday press release.
Haynes will be on community supervision for one year after his release, Clallam County Superior Court Judge Lauren Erickson ruled.
“In recent years, the proliferation of drugs in the community, especially methamphetamine and heroin, has led OPNET, law enforcement agencies and the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to take an aggressive approach to pursuing and prosecuting cases involving the distribution of controlled substances,” Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Snipe said in a press release.
“This case represents one such example.”
