PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man has been sentenced to five years in prison and one year probation for violating a domestic violence no-contact order, the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced.
David R. Giddings, 46, received the statutory maximum sentence Wednesday based on his extensive criminal history, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney James Kennedy said.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Erik Rohrer also ordered Giddings to pay $615 in fees and to undergo chemical dependency treatment and domestic violence counseling.
Port Angeles police said that Giddings confronted a woman at her church in July 2017 when the no-contact order was in effect.
“While in the presence of the couple’s children and the church nursery supervisor, the defendant began shouting and swearing at his wife,” Kennedy said in a Thursday news release.
“He aggressively grabbed her arm, said something under his breath, and then fled. The police were contacted shortly thereafter.”
Giddings pleaded guilty May 30 to one count of felony violation of a domestic violence no-contact order.
In exchange for the guilty plea, one count of bail jumping and two counts of telephone harassment were dismissed, court papers said.
Defense attorney Douglas Kresl requested a prison-based Drug Offender Sentencing Alternative (DOSA) for Giddings.
Rohrer followed Kennedy’s sentencing recommendations.
Giddings’ criminal history included prior convictions for two counts of residential burglary with domestic violence, second-degree arson with domestic violence, two counts of fourth-degree assault with domestic violence, two counts of violation of a domestic violence no-contact order, second-degree escape, first-degree possession of stolen property, two counts of attempting to elude a police vehicle, delivery of a controlled substance and multiple misdemeanor convictions for assault and domestic violence no-contact order violations, Kennedy said.
