PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man convicted of second-degree rape of a child has been sentenced to 84 months in prison, according to the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Second-degree rape of a child carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a $50,000 fine.
Christopher Keith Wilson, 45, was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Brian Coughenour, according to a news release.
He was sentenced within a standard range of 78 to 102 months and will be on community custody by the Department of Corrections and subject to the jurisdiction of the Indeterminate Sentencing Review Board for life, according to Michele Devlin, chief criminal deputy prosecutor.
That means Wilson is basically on lifetime parole, Devlin said.
“Prosecuting adults who sexually victimize children is a priority for this office,” Devlin said.
Wilson was charged with the crime last August after police discovered he had been in a monthlong sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl, according to court records.
The relationship was discovered by an adult friend of the girl’s family, according to the release.
Police Detective Shane Martin wrote in the arrest narrative that Wilson admitted to having sex with the child.
Wilson, who has no prior felony history, was arrested and held in the Clallam County jail on $10,000 bail.
After posting bail, he was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim, among other conditions of release.
In June, Wilson allegedly violated that no-contact order by meeting with the victim and has been held in the Clallam County jail since, according to the release.
