PORT ANGELES — A 47-year-old Port Angeles man has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after pleading guilty to drug and weapons charges, the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team announced.
Darrin M. Liggins was sentenced Wednesday on single counts of possession with the intent to deliver heroin, possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of oxycodone and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, court papers said.
OPNET, the Clallam and Jefferson County drug task force, received information that Liggins was selling heroin and methamphetamine out of Port Angeles motels last last year, Sgt. John Keegan said in a news release.
Liggins, a convicted felon, was reportedly armed with a handgun during the sales, Keegan said.
Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Federline spotted Liggins’ vehicle parked at 2008 E. Fourth Ave. near Port Angeles on Nov. 18., court papers said.
The deputy arrested Liggins on a misdemeanor warrant for driving with a suspended license after he left the Gales Addition residence, according to the affidavit for probable cause.
Federline noticed two chunks of suspected crystal methamphetamine inside the driver’s door handle, Detective Jeff Pickrell wrote in the probable cause statement.
Sheriff’s deputies and OPNET personnel found 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine, four grams of suspected heroin, eight oxycodone pills, a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, $1,614 in cash, motel keys, digital scale and various items of drug paraphernalia in the 2013 Hyundai Elantra that Liggins was driving, Pickrell said.
The heroin and methamphetamine was divided into several small plastic bags, Keegan said.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Erik Rohrer followed the sentence as recommended in the plea agreement, according to the minutes of the sentencing hearing.
Liggins will be on state Department of Corrections supervision after he is released.
He was ordered to pay $1,300 in fines.
Liggins was being held Saturday at the Washington Corrections Center near Shelton.
