Port Angeles man pleads not guilty to multiple rape, assault charges

PORT ANGELES — Nikolas Reinhardt Clark has pleaded not guilty to multiple rape and assault charges for crimes he is accused of committing in December.

The 30-year-old Port Angeles man was arraigned Friday on one count of first-degree rape-serious physical injury, three counts of third-degree rape, two counts of attempted second-degree assault-strangulation and single charges of second-degree assault, second-degree assault-strangulation, second-degree assault-deadly weapon, assault in violation of a protection order, and first-degree burglary-remaining unlawfully in her house while armed with a deadly weapon.

A two-day trial was scheduled for March 26. A status hearing is scheduled for March 9.

Port Angeles police said that between Dec. 8-11, Clark assaulted and raped a 24-year-old woman he had met on Craigslist.

The woman told police that Clark grew increasingly jealous and violent after she refused to have an exclusive relationship with him, according to the affidavit for probable cause.

She said that Clark beat, strangled and raped her several times.

In one incident, Clark allegedly punched the woman so hard that she thought her chin and nose were broken, police said, although subsequent medical examination found they were not.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brian Coughenour signed Friday a post-arraignment no-contact order protecting the alleged victim

Clark is being held in the Clallam County jail on $250,000 bail.
