PORT ANGELES — A Postal Service worker charged with two counts of first-degree child rape and two counts of first-degree child molestation is taking his case to trial.
Bryon G. Midkiff, 42, pleaded not guilty Friday in Clallam County Superior Court and had his one-week trial set for Nov. 4.
A status hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 11.
Midkiff remained in the county jail Monday on $25,000 bail.
The charges contain domestic violence- ongoing pattern special allegations.
Prosecuting Attorney Mark Nichols said at a Sept. 9 court hearing that the 12-year-old girl, has “a known mental health condition.”
Midkiff was interviewed by a deputy about the girl’s assertions Sept. 8.
A woman had called 9-1-1 to report that Midkiff was suicidal after the girl “disclosed that he had been molesting her,” according to the probable cause statement.
The girl first disclosed the alleged abuse to a different relative, according to the statement.
Midkiff told Deputy William Cortani that the girl is schizophrenic and exhibits six personalities, including a “sexually aggressive” one, according to the statement.
Midkiff admitted to raping and molesting the girl before being read his Miranda rights, then confirmed that he had told the truth and that his statements were voluntary, according to the statement.
The girl said Midkiff began sexually touching her on her sixth birthday, according to the statement.
First-degree child rape is a Class A felony with the element of sexual intercourse with someone who is between 12 and 14 years old.
Child molestation is sexual contact with someone who is younger than 12.
