Port Angeles man pleads guilty to rape of 14-year-old boy

PORT ANGELES — A 47-year-old Port Angeles man pleaded guilty Thursday to the rape of a 14-year-old boy last year.

Shawn Dawson, now held in the Clallam County jail without bail, faces a range of 26 to 34 months in prison and will be sentenced at 9 a.m. May 3.

As part of a plea deal, Dawson pleaded guilty to third-degree rape of a child and communication with a minor for immoral purposes. A charge for distribution of a controlled substance to a minor was dropped.

The boy accused Dawson, a bartender, of raping him three times, according to an arrest report filed by county sheriff’s office Deputy Amy Bundy.

According to the report, the teen had talked about one of the rapes with his mother, grandmother, brothers and a Stevens Middle School employee.

The boy said he had known Dawson for about a year.
