Port Angeles man in custody after rollover wreck

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man remained in the Clallam County jail on Sunday after he allegedly overturned a car carrying three children while under the influence of alcohol on U.S. Highway 101 late Friday.

Johnathan J. Larsen, 30, remained in jail with a $10,000 bond for investigation of two counts of reckless endangerment and one count of DUI-alcohol after the 11:26 p.m. Friday wreck that sent an 11-year-old girl, also of Port Angeles, to Olympic Medical Center, according to jail records and a State Patrol memo.

The two other children in the 1999 Chevy Malibu, ages 5 and 7, were not hurt, according to the State Patrol, which did not name the three children because of their ages. The hometowns and genders of the two uninjured children also were not noted on the State Patrol memo.

Troopers said Larsen was westbound on Highway 101 approaching Old Olympic Highway east of Port Angeles when he lost control of the car and left the roadway to the right. The car traveled through a ditch, stuck a mailbox and collided with a street sign and a light pole before it overturned and came to rest on its passenger side.

Larsen, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to OMC in Port Angeles before he was transported to the jail, the State Patrol said.

Troopers said two of the children were wearing seat belts while the 7-year-old was “restrained.”

The car was destroyed, the State Patrol said.
