Port Angeles man facing drug, weapons charges released after posting $210,000 bond

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man facing several drug and weapons charges has posted bond and been released from Clallam County jail.

Gerald Neil Walkup, 26, was released Friday after posting $210,000 bond, according to jail records.

Walkup is charged with possessing more than two pounds of heroin, nearly a pound of methamphetamine and a stolen gun, as well as unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon and four counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, according to court documents.

Walkup is next scheduled to appear in Clallam County Superior Court on June 2 for a status hearing.

A three-day trial is scheduled to start July 31.

Walkup was arrested in April after deputies say they recognized him in a vehicle reported as being suspicious east of Port Angeles.

When deputies arrived, Walkup drove off at a high rate of speed, court records say.

Deputies found the vehicle minutes later after it had crashed near the corner of East Seventh Avenue and North Bourchier Street in Gales Addition in east Port Angeles.

The incident ended with deputies seizing 950 grams of heroin, more than 400 grams of meth, four guns, about 20 cellphones, dozens of car keys, 100 ounces of silver and about $9,000 in cash, deputies said.

About $5,500 was in the vehicle and about $3,500 was in Walkup’s sock, court records say.

Walkup has two previous felony convictions for drug-related crimes.
