Port Angeles man drives off highway, through fence, hits building

SEQUIM — A Port Angeles man was transported to Olympic Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon after his vehicle drifted off U.S. Highway 101, went up an embankment and smashed a fence before hitting a building, according to the State Patrol.

Gabriel E. Connors, 30, was treated and released at OMC, a hospital spokesperson said Thursday evening.

Connors was charged with driving under the influence and wheels off the roadway, according to a State Patrol press memo.

Connors was driving eastbound on Highway 101 at about 1:45 p.m. and approaching River Road in Sequim when his vehicle moved into the median and crossed both eastbound lanes before leaving the highway.

“He hit the corner of the building and took out support beams in the corner,” State Patrol spokesperson Trooper Chelsea Hodgson said Thursday evening.

“Nobody was in the building,” she added.

Connors was wearing a seat belt, according to the press memo.

His vehicle was completely destroyed.
