Port Angeles man convicted of weapons charge

PORT ANGELES — Adam Chamberlin, the former administrator of a Facebook group that targeted alleged criminals, has been convicted of unlawful possession of a short-barreled shotgun.

The 43-year-old Port Angeles man was found guilty Monday after a one-day jury trial in Clallam County Superior Court.

He is scheduled to be sentenced April 18.

Previous counts of first-degree computer trespass, disclosing intimate images and third-degree possession of stolen property were dismissed March 16.

With an offender score of zero, Chamberlin faces a standard sentencing range of one to three months under the state Sentencing Reform Act, Michele Devlin, Clallam County chief criminal deputy prosecuting attorney, said Wednesday.

Port Angeles police said they found a sawed-off shotgun at Chamberlin’s Francis Street residence last October while they were investigating stolen cellphones and sexual photographs of two people that had been posted to the defunct “Clallam County Criminal Watch 2” Facebook group.

The Facebook page sought to “enable concerned citizens to identify active criminals and drug dealers,” according to Chamberlin’s GoFundMe page.

Chamberlin told police that people frequently left cellphones and memory cards in his mailbox, Officer Whitney Fairbanks wrote in the affidavit for probable cause.

Devlin has said she decided to dismiss the other criminal charges against Chamberlin after evaluating the evidence.

Unlawful possession of a short-barreled shotgun is a Class C felony.
