PORT ANGELES — A 26-year-old Port Angeles man was arrested on multiple theft and drug charges in connection with the alleged theft of a pickup from the Sequim area last week.
Sean Tamburro was charged Thursday with possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude police and possession of methamphetamine. He is being held on $25,000 bond.
Tamburro will be arraigned in Clallam County Superior Court on Friday, when a trial date is expected to be set.
The incident began last Wednesday morning when deputies with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an unincorporated area east of Port Angeles in response to a report of a stolen grey 1991 Ford Ranger with a blue driver’s door and a silver canopy.
Later in the day, detectives and officers with the Sequim Police Department went to the 700 block of River Road outside of Sequim to attempt to locate Tamburro as they had developed probable cause to arrest him for multiple recent burglaries and vehicle prowls and Tamburro was known to frequent an address near that location.
As law enforcement officers approached the residence, one of the detectives observed the 1991 Ford Ranger being driven in the area. The detective followed the truck until officers in a marked patrol vehicle could conduct a traffic stop.
When officers used their emergency lights and sirens to stop the pickup, the driver sped up to about 40 mph and failed to stop at two stop signs, and caused other motorists to swerve out of the way, according to a report filed by the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
After a few blocks, the driver of the pickup pulled into a parking lot. The exit to the parking lot was blocked, and uniformed officers and sheriff’s deputies arrested Tamburro, who was driving. Two women in the pickup were questioned and released.
While being searched after his arrest, Tamburro allegedly admitted to officers he had methamphetamine on his person. The pickup’s canopy was found a short time later at the River Road address. Witnesses at the address told officers Tamburro arrived at the residence the previous night with the truck.
Tamburro was booked into the Clallam County Jail on suspicion of eluding a police vehicle, residential burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, vehicle prowl, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and driving with his license suspended.
A search warrant was executive on the vehicle on Thursday. Investigators seized a small amount of suspected heroin, methamphetamine, prescription opioids and drug paraphernalia. Burglary tools, including a set of bolt cutters and a vehicle unlocking device known as a “Slim Jim,” were also discovered.
Tamburro also is facing charges from June 23 in a separate incident of possession of a stolen vehicle and use of drug paraphernalia and an amended charge of possession of stolen mail.
