PORT ANGELES — Charges of second-degree rape by forcible compulsion and fourth-degree assault were filed Wednesday against a 43-year-old Port Angeles man.
Other women have filed domestic-violence protection orders against Jason Patrick Spaulding.
Bail of $50,000 remained Wednesday for Spaulding, whose arraignment was set for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 24 by Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brian Coughenour.
Spaulding, booked Friday, remained in the Clallam County jail late Wednesday afternoon.
Coughenour ordered that Spaulding not have any contact with the alleged rape victim, a woman who, according to court documents, he first contacted on Facebook messenger on Aug. 1.
Spaulding also was ordered to not have contact with the alleged assault victim, a male friend of the woman’s who met Spaulding for the first time Aug. 8.
The first time he and the alleged victim met was the morning of Aug. 8, when the alleged rape occurred, according to the probable cause statement.
“No problem, no problem,” with the no-contact order, Spaulding told Coughenour.
The three met at an apartment in the 100 block of North Albert Street in Port Angeles when they were with mutual friends, according to the probable cause statement.
They went out to breakfast and to Wal-Mart before going to Spaulding’s Old Mill Road home.
The woman’s friend was cleaning Spaulding’s shed, which Spaulding was paying him to do, when the assault allegedly occurred inside Spaulding’s house, according to the probable cause statement.
“[The woman] said she had been raped before, but she had never been so scared in her life,” according to the statement.
After she was assaulted, she ran out of the house half-naked and crying followed by Spaulding, according to the statement.
As the woman and the man tried to flee, Spaulding allegedly hit the man in the back with his fist.
The man then ran to a home on Old Mill Road and asked the resident to call law enforcement.
The resident retrieved a pistol, told the woman and her friend to wait on his lawn, and Spaulding walked away to his residence, according to the probable cause statement.
The resident’s wife called 9-1-1.
Spaulding had three protection orders issued against him by three women between Dec. 29 and Feb. 16, according to court documents.
