Port Angeles man booked for investigation of burglary, other charges

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man was arrested and a woman fled when the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team investigated a report of an in-progress burglary south of Port Angeles on Tuesday.

Robertson Leslee Walker, 23, was booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon.

Detective Sgt. John Keegan of OPNET said dispatch received a call at about 8 a.m. Tuesday that two people were in an abandoned house on the 2000 block of East Maddock Road. The property owner saw two people in the house via surveillance cameras that had been installed.

“Apparently this is not the first time it’s been broken into, hence the video surveillance,” Keegan said. “Nothing was reported missing at this point.”

Keegan said Walker was arrested without incident. During a search of his vehicle, law enforcement found drug paraphernalia used for smoking heroin and brass knuckles, Keegan said.

A woman, who Keegan said deputies have identified, fled the scene. A Sequim Police Department dog was used to track her, but the search was unsuccessful.

“We’re reviewing the video and coming up with a plan,” he said.

Keegan said the Port Angeles Police Department and Clallam County Sheriff’s Office have been responding to “a lot” of burglaries recently and he urged people to lock their doors.

“Don’t make your house vulnerable to a burglary,” he said. “Keep an eye out on neighbors’ houses and know what’s going on in your neighborhood.”

He said anyone who sees anything suspicious, such as people knocking on doors and asking odd questions, should call the police.

“Generally people are knocking on your door to see if you’re home,” he said. “They are scoping out houses.”
