Port Angeles man arrested after reported road rage

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles motorist arrested Saturday for allegedly pointing a pistol at a couple during a Christmas Eve road-rage incident could have his first court appearance Tuesday on a charge of felony harassment.

“When we recovered the gun, it had a loaded magazine, but we don’t know if [a round] was in the chamber at the time,” Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Pieper said Sunday. Pieper said the pistol had a laser sight.

Shane Harrison Colman, 39, was being held in the Clallam County jail Sunday without bond for investigation of felony harassment following his arrest without incident Saturday afternoon at his home.

Colman could have his first appearance on the charge Tuesday in Clallam County Superior Court, Pieper said.

The incident occurred in the area of the U.S. Highway 101-Bayview Avenue intersection east of Port Angeles near the Safeway grocery store.

Colman, in one vehicle, got into an argument with a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man from Port Angeles in another vehicle after one tried passing the other, Pieper said.

Colman was outside his vehicle exchanging words with the other motorist when he allegedly reached inside his vehicle, pulled out the pistol and pointed it at the couple, Pieper said.

“They saw the red light from it,” he said. “It scared them.”

Pieper said Colman drove away toward his Bayview Avenue-area home, and a sheriff’s deputy stopped him based on the victims’ description.

Deputies executed a search warrant at Colman’s home Saturday, recovering three pistols and a rifle and arresting him for investigation of felony harassment, Pieper said.
