Port Angeles man accused of pointing gun at women who nearly hit him with car

PORT ANGELES — A 69-year-old Port Angeles man was arrested Saturday for investigation of attempted first-degree assault for allegedly pointing a gun at two women near the Olympic Peninsula YMCA, city police said.

Dan Kuklo was arrested in the 500 block of East Fifth Street after he allegedly pointed a handgun at two woman who were in a car at the corner of Fourth and Francis streets, police said.

Kuklo, who has a valid pistol license, was found to be in possession of a .38-caliber handgun.

The women, who are 24 and 18, told Officer Sean Ryan that they were leaving the gym when they nearly ran into Kuklo, who was crossing the street.

“They said that they did not see Kuklo and stopped their vehicle and tried to apologize,” police said in a news release.

“They said that Kuklo kicked their vehicle and drew a handgun from his person and pointed it at them. They said that they were in fear of being shot, drove away and flagged down Officer Ryan.”

Kuklo admitted that he had kicked the vehicle after almost being hit, police said. He said he drew his firearm because he was in fear of being robbed, police said.

The women positively identified Kuklo as the man who pointed the gun at them. He was taken to the Clallam County jail.

The Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will consider filing formal charges against Kuklo this week. A bail hearing is scheduled for Monday.
