PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man accused of putting super glue on several ATM machines on Labor Day weekend was charged Monday with four counts of second-degree malicious mischief — physical damage exceeding $750.
Charles Alan Johnson will be arraigned in Clallam County Superior Court on Friday.
The 65-year-old was charged after super glue was put on the faces of ATMs at Kitsap Bank, Wells Fargo, Strait View Credit Union and US Bank branches in Port Angeles on Sept. 2 and Sept. 3.
Johnson had been on state Department of Corrections supervision for a 2017 identity theft conviction.
He was released from the Clallam County jail on his personal recognizance Thursday after being arrested Wednesday.
Johnson was back in jail by 2:45 p.m. Friday for an alleged theft at the Bada NW Coffee Shop at 118 W. First St. in downtown Port Angeles.
City police said Johnson was seen on surveillance footage taking a set of keys from an employee at about 10 a.m. Friday.
Johnson went back to the business later that day wearing a stolen T-shirt, according to a news release.
Staff confronted Johnson and he returned the shirt, but there was a second stolen shirt underneath, police said.
Johnson fled when he was asked about the stolen keys, police said.
Johnson was arrested in the backyard of a Port Angeles residence.
The theft case will be handled in Clallam County District Court.
Clallam County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Steve Johnson on Monday filed a motion to impose bail for Johnson on his felony case.
Superior Court Judge Christopher Melly granted the request for a $5,000 bail.
Charles Johnson is under orders to stay away from property belonging to Kitsap Bank, US Bank, Strait View Credit Union and Wells Fargo.
