Police investigate alleged car arson in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — City police on Tuesday were investigating an alleged vehicle arson that occurred over the weekend.

A 1995 Geo Metro was burned late Saturday or early Sunday while parked at 1404 E. Third St., police said.

“It appeared that someone tried to burn up the car,” Deputy Chief of Police Jason Viada said.

Port Angeles Officer Jeff Thaxton collected evidence, interviewed the owner of the property near where the car was parked and spoke to a suspect on the phone, Viada said.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday.

Sgt. Josh Powless said fingerprints and DNA evidence from the car had been sent to a State Patrol crime lab.

“The case is still open and active,” Viada said.
