Port Angeles woman charged with leaving meth as tip

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles woman has been charged for allegedly leaving methamphetamine as a tip for her bartender.

Sereena S. Townsend, 52, was charged Wednesday with one count of delivery of a controlled substance for the alleged incident at the Gateway Tavern in Port Angeles.

Townsend, who was released from the Clallam County jail on her personal recognizance Monday, is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court on Friday.

City police alleged that Townsend wrapped a piece of methamphetamine in paper and left it with a bartender as she was leaving the downtown tavern on the evening of Oct. 2.

The bartender told police that a woman later identified as Townsend offered to “do a line” with her and left her address and telephone number on a note and placed it in a tip jar.

Police reviewed video surveillance from the bar and established probable cause for Townsend’s arrest, court papers said.

Officer Mike Johnson said he arrested Townsend at the Rite Aid/Goodwill parking lot on south Lincoln Street on the morning of Oct. 13.

“Townsend confirmed that she had given a piece of paper to the bartender with her contact info on it but was adamant that the substance inside was a bud of marijuana, not methamphetamine,” Johnson said in the affidavit for probable cause.

Police said the substance in the piece of paper tested positive for meth.
