OPNET reports finding $7,600 worth of meth

Sequim man to have first court appearance Friday

SEQUIM — Authorities arrested a 21-year-old farm laborer Thursday afternoon for investigation of possession with intent to deliver after they said they found about $7,600 worth of crystal methamphetamine in his truck.

Baylee B. Nelson of Sequim was booked into the Clallam County jail without bail after the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team, acting on a tip from informants, arrested him without incident at his place of work, said Brian King, Clallam County chief criminal Deputy and OPNET commander.

King said Nelson lives with other adults in a two-bedroom, 1,000-square-foot residence in the 300 block of Taylor Ranch Road north of Sequim. Authorities first tried to locate Nelson at his home before arresting him at work.

Nelson, employed as a laborer at a Sequim-area farm, will have his first appearance today in Superior Court.

King said that officers retrieved 3.8 ounces, or 108 grams, of crystal methamphetamine from the truck.

The street value of the drug is about $7,600, or $70 a gram, the common unit of sale, King said.

Scales and pipes also were taken, King said.

There was no evidence that the methamphetamine was being manufactured at the home, King said.

“Typically, the crystal meth we recover originates in Mexico,” he said.

The amount seized was “about middle of the road” for quantities that OPNET takes in crystal methamphetamine drug busts, King said.
