SEQUIM — A convicted felon who allegedly fled from deputies after an Aug. 17 traffic stop was arrested near Sequim on Wednesday.
Steven D. Goodman, 31, was arrested without incident at a hotel east of Sequim at about 4:45 p.m., the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team (OPNET) said.
He was booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of drug and weapons violations and local and state warrants, said Detective Sgt. Josh Powless, OPNET supervisor.
Goodman was charged in Clallam County Superior Court on Monday with one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. An arrest warrant was issued Monday.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brent Basden set Goodman’s bail at $25,000 on Thursday.
On the night of Aug. 17, county sheriff’s deputies performed a traffic stop on a Ford Bronco for allegedly driving 43 mph in a 35 mph zone and missing taillights on the 2000 block of Monroe Road.
A passenger later identified as Goodman fled on foot when the vehicle came to a stop, deputies said.
Deputies discovered 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a loaded 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun and drug paraphernalia inside the Bronco.
Sixty grams of suspected methamphetamine, more than $2,500 in cash and Goodman’s identification were found in the area where Goodman fled, deputies said.
The driver of the Bronco was cited for speeding, driving with a suspended license and driving without a required ignition interlock device.
On Wednesday, OPNET detectives, state Department of Corrections Officers and the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force developed information that Goodman was at a hotel east of Sequim.
“A second subject at the hotel, identified as 23-year-old Sarah J. Roberts, was taken into custody for a separate warrant,” Powless said.
OPNET detectives found 3.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 1.4 grams of suspected heroin in the hotel room.
“The investigation into those controlled substances is ongoing,” Powless said.
Goodman has nine felony convictions, most recently for robbery, burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm, deputies said. He also was convicted on five misdemeanor assault charges, according to OPNET.
