PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man who allegedly attacked a bus driver and elderly passenger in May and punched a corrections deputy last month is expected to get new trial dates Friday.
Riley Edge White posted a $20,000 bail bond July 28, missed a court appearance last Friday and was booked into the Clallam County jail on a $120,000 bench warrant, court records show.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Christopher Melly quashed the warrant and released White on his personal recognizance after a Monday court hearing, according to the minutes of the hearing.
White was ordered to reappear in court at 9 a.m. Friday to have his September trial dates reset. White’s felony trials are scheduled to commence Sept. 12 and Sept. 26.
White, 59, is charged in one case with first-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree attempted robbery and two counts of second-degree assault for alleged crimes that occurred on a Clallam Transit bus May 28.
Port Angeles police said White assaulted an 80-year-old acquaintance, Angeline Olsen, and Clallam Transit bus driver Joy Crummett before attempting to take command of the bus in west Port Angeles.
A shocking Clallam Transit surveillance video shows a man kicking Olsen in the face and then attacking the driver, who managed to escape from White’s choke hold and deactivate the battery before White could drive away.
White is charged in a second felony case with one count of custodial assault for an alleged attack on a Clallam County jail officer.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said White punched the deputy in the throat while the lawman was bringing him lunch July 11.
White was also charged in Clallam County District Court with second-degree trespassing for allegedly violating orders to stay away from Clallam Transit facilities.
Port Angeles police arrested White at a Transit bus stop near the Clallam County courthouse June 17, one day after he posted a $30,000 bail bond for the first felony case.
One of the second-degree assault charges is for strangulation, and the other carries a special allegation that White caused the reckless infliction of substantial bodily harm on a vulnerable victim.
