PORT TOWNSEND — A 47-year-old Bremerton man has been sentenced to more than 3½ years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle.
Curtis Edward Allen changed his plea to guilty Friday in Jefferson County Superior Court before Judge Keith Harper, who sentenced him to the low end of the standard range at 43 months.
Possession of a stolen vehicle is a Class B felony.
Allen also pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Class C felony, and was sentenced to one year in prison.
The sentences will run concurrently followed by one year of community custody.
Allen also was ordered to pay $600 in fines. He waived his right to attend a future restitution hearing.
The sentencing came as part of a plea agreement from county Prosecuting Attorney James Kennedy, who recommended the low end of the standard range of 43 to 57 months for possession of a stolen vehicle and 12 months for the drug charge.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop Allen as he drove the stolen vehicle westbound on state Highway 104 just before 6 a.m. Sept. 1. Allen was driving erratically and then fled onto northbound state Highway 19 toward Chimacum, according to court documents.
Deputies pursued Allen and dropped spike strips in front of his vehicle. Allen attempted to swerve past them, but the strips deflated one tire as he passed over them, documents state.
Deputies continued to pursue Allen until they used a pursuit immobilization technique to end the chase.
Allen was arrested and booked on investigation of eluding a police vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, possession of vehicle theft tools, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
The stolen vehicle was from Kitsap County, according to court documents.
Allen’s criminal history includes 25 previous convictions in King, Kitsap and Pierce counties, 18 of which were for second-degree burglary. His first conviction occurred in 1991 and most recent was 2015.
Friday’s sentencing was his first conviction in Jefferson County.
