Man arrested on investigation of child sex offenses

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 25-year-old Port Angeles man on investigation of multiple sex offenses involving juveniles.

Daniel L. Sigmon was arrested without incident about 5:24 p.m. Tuesday at a bus stop near U.S. Highway 101 and Siberts Creek Road, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Sigmon was being held at the Clallam County Jail in lieu of $125,000 bail on Wednesday. He is being investigated for four counts of second-degree child rape, second-degree child molestation and second-degree assault, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies initially responded about 10:47 p.m. on June 19, 2024, to a report of a missing 13-year-old girl who was last known to be at Railroad Bridge Park in Sequim, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The girl’s father told deputies his daughter left home with another 13-year-old girl to go to the park at about 8 p.m., but they hadn’t returned. The father searched the park but could not locate his daughter, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded with Sequim Police officers to search for the girls. When Sequim Police officers located them, they said they were hiding with a man and his dog because they were scared of a bear in the area.

The Sequim police officers briefly interacted with the man and captured him on their body-worn cameras, but the man was not immediately identified by law enforcement at the time. He left the scene and could not be located later that evening, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The girls told deputies the man approached them while they were swimming in the river and told them there was a bear in the area. They said the man told them his name was Danny, he was 19 years old and his dog’s name was Kevin, the Sheriff’s Office said.

After the girls were released to their parents, deputies received information from a family member that one of the girls was sexually assaulted by the man with the dog at Railroad Bridge Park, the Sheriff’s Office said.

As they were interviewed by law enforcement officers, both girls said they had been sexually assaulted. During the interaction, the man allegedly shared social media information with one of the girls, the Sheriff’s Office said.

After a lengthy investigation requiring search warrants to social media outlets, cell phone analysis, law enforcement database inquires and DNA analysis, the man was identified as Sigmon, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Clallam County Superior Court issued an arrest warrant for Sigmon at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday, and deputies arrested him three hours later.
