BRINNON — A Brinnon man has been arrested on investigation of first-degree attempted murder after allegedly attempting to kill a woman during a reported domestic violence incident.
James Nathaniel Parker, 38, is expected to appear in Jefferson County Superior Court at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, when he could be charged, county Sheriff’s Sgt. Brett Anglin said in a Monday phone interview.
Parker remained Monday in the Jefferson County jail, where he was being held without bail.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of the domestic violence incident at about 9:24 p.m. Sunday when a neighbor of the victim reported a female with significant lacerations to her arms, neck and back, according to a social media post from the Sheriff’s Office.
The female victim identified her attacker as Parker, with whom she had been in a previous relationship but had been separated from “for a significant amount of time,” Anglin said.
The victim, a 20-year-old Brinnon woman, was flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Anglin said she is expected to survive, but her condition was not available Monday.
Sheriff’s deputies located Parker on Sunday night after he reportedly attempted to carjack an occupied vehicle in Mason County, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.
Parker’s own vehicle was stopped on U.S. Highway 101 at about milepost 317 in Mason County. Jefferson County deputies were investigating Monday if the vehicle suffered mechanical issues or if Parker intentionally abandoned it, Anglin said.
Mason County law enforcement assisted Jefferson County deputies with police K-9 Jano, who tracked and found Parker hiding in a wooded area, according to a Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) social media post.
The MCSO post claims Parker attacked the victim with a machete, but Anglin said that is under investigation. Anglin confirmed the victim’s lacerations where from a cutting instrument.
The motive is still under investigation, Anglin said.
Detectives interviewed Parker and arrested him at 11:09 p.m. Sunday, Anglin said.
Parker was booked at the Jefferson County jail for first-degree attempted murder with domestic violence, a Class A felony, at 1:41 a.m. Monday, according to the county jail roster.
The investigation was ongoing at the Brinnon home on Monday, with deputies receiving assistance from the State Patrol’s crime lab, Anglin said.
