CLALLAM BAY — A Clallam Bay man remained Thursday in the Clallam County jail for investigation of second-degree murder-domestic violence after Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a reported homicide late Wednesday night in Clallam Bay.
Bail had not been set for Cipriano Ojeda-Ibarra, 55, as of Thursday.
Deputies said they arrived at about 10:35 p.m. Wednesday to a travel trailer in Clallam Bay, where they located a deceased 39-year-old woman, later identified as Charlotte Louesa Lopez.
“Indications are that she died from a gunshot wound.
An autopsy is pending. Ojeda-Ibarra is believed to be the victim’s stepfather,” according to an update from the sheriff’s office.
Ojeda-Ibarra later was identified on the property, then arrested and booked into Clallam County jail for investigation of one count of second-degree murder-domestic violence, according to an update from the sheriff’s office.
“The victim and suspect are related, which is why it reads domestic violence,” said Clallam County Undersheriff Ron Cameron.
The sheriff’s office activated the Major Incident Response Team to assist with the investigation.
It consists of the sheriff’s office; the Port Angeles, Sequim and Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal police; and the State Patrol, which sent its Crime Scene Response Team.
The Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Coroner’s Office are also participating in the response, Cameron said.
Search warrants were obtained and detailed processing of the scene was being conducted in addition to witness interviews, but the process did not begin until late Thursday morning.
Crime scene investigators were continuing to examine the crime scene Thursday evening.
