PORT ANGELES — A Kitsap County man has been arrested after a high-speed pursuit on U.S. Highway 101 near Port Angeles, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jesse Eisenhower, 29, was found to be in possession of 63 grams of bath salts after he was found Sunday in the woods near Monroe Road, Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Amy Bundy said.
Eisenhower was booked into Clallam County jail for investigation of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree driving while license suspended, Bundy said.
Eisenhower was seen speeding in a silver BMW on U.S. Highway 101 near Sieberts Creek Road at about 5:40 p.m. Sunday.
“The deputy attempted to catch up to Eisenhower, but he was driving at such a high rate of speed that the deputy determined it was unsafe to pursue,” Bundy said in a news release.
Deputies found the car Eisenhower was driving parked near the intersection of Baker Farm Road and Emily Lane southeast of Port Angeles at about 7 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies returned to the area at about 9 p.m. and could hear a man yelling and moaning in the woods, Bundy said.
Eisenhower was arrested without further incident.
“Deputies located drug paraphernalia and a backpack near where Eisenhower was located,” Bundy said.
“Eisenhower also appeared to be under the influence of drugs.”
Investigators discovered digital scales, plastic bags, hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia in the backpack.
“Deputies also located five independently packaged plastic bags that contained a crystal-like substance weighing a combined 63 grams,” Bundy said.
“Eisenhower told deputies the substance was ‘bath salts.’ Deputies located about the grams of suspected heroin as well.”
Bath salts are synthetic stimulants that, when ingested, can lead to serious or fatal adverse reactions.
“They are often sold on the street as cheap substitutes for other stimulants such as methamphetamine and cocaine,” Bundy said.
