PORT ANGELES — A hearing has been set in a child rape case to determine whether certain statements the alleged victim made to authorities will be admissible at trial.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brian Coughenour scheduled Friday a child hearsay hearing for Jan. 17 in the case of Donald William Kingsley. Pre-trial motions will be argued at the same hearing, court papers said.
Kingsley, 30, has pleaded not guilty to single counts of first-degree child rape and first-degree child molestation for crimes he allegedly committed against an 8-year-old girl in August.
His one-week trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 22.
Port Angeles police arrested Kingsley after he allegedly confessed to the crimes in a recorded conversation with the girl’s father, according to the affidavit for probable cause.
Both charges against Kingsley carry a special allegation that he used his “position of trust, confidence, or fiduciary responsibility” to commit the alleged offense.
The trial was rescheduled last October to allow time for evidence to be processed at a State Patrol crime lab.
Kingsley is being held in the Clallam County jail on $100,000 bail.
